XC: Wolverines run in talent-filled Trojan Invite

Runners from bigger schools press Wolverine standouts

ATLANTIC —The Nodaway Valley/OM boys were 14th in a talent-filled cross country meet Thursday at Atlantic’s Nishna Hills Golf Course.

Lincoln, Nebraska’s Pius X Catholic won the meet with 26 points while Oakland Riverside (73), Red Oak (123), Earlham (143) and Kuemper Catholic (217) rounded up the top five.

Individually, sophomore Gabe Winkelmann was 23rd for the Wolverines, clocking in at 18:23.1. Junior runners Luke Kading (44th, 19:19.6) and Paul Kading (75th, 20:03.6) were next in line.

Freshman Josh Nelson was 81st (20:26.8), Everett Ehler 93rd (20:55.5), Cherubim Mercado 103rd (21:28.4) and Trevyn Colton 118th (22:41.70). Joe Majerus of Lincoln Pius X ran a 16:13.1) to top the field of 132 boys varsity finishers. The top five finishers went under 17 minutes.

JV finishers for the boys included Lincoln Van Horn (110th, 25:25.3) and Fynn Thompson (116th, 25:55.1),

On the girls’ side, Wolverine freshman Abby Nelson was 63rd (24:24.7) in the varsity results. Kenzie Lilly was 66th (30:33.60) among JV girls.

NV/OM was scheduled to host the Pride of Iowa Conference Championships Tuesday, Oct. 14 at Greenfield Golf and Country Club, then run Thursday in a meet at Mount Ayr.
