Greene County tourney yields one win

JEFFERSON — Nodaway Valley/OM’s volleyball pushed into the echelon of teams with double-digit win totals in the past week, defeating Stanton Saturday in a tournament at Greene County.

In the thick of a long string of quality teams they’ve played, the Wolverines lost six-straight matches coming into Saturday’s win.

Against the Viqueens, the Wolverines fell in the first set 21-15, then roared back with wins of 21-13 and 15-10 to secure the victory.

The Wolverines lost 2-0 to Carroll High (21-10, 21-10) and suffered a loss to Des Moines East, but set scores against the Scarlets weren’t available.

Wolverines fall to top teams

LIBERTY CENTER — The Wolverines lost to Southeast Warren and Mount Ayr in two-set matches last Tuesday. Both opponents NV/OM faced are near the top of the conference.

The Raiderettes won on set scores of 25-15 and 25-12, led by 18 assists from junior Jaylee Shaffer and 15 kills from senior Aubree Shields. Emma Boswell finished with four kills and Izzy Eisbach totaled two blocks. Allie Cornelison had five digs.

Boswell had four kills and six digs against Southeast Warren while Taylor Laughery had four blocks.

A balanced attack for Southeast Warren had senior Lexi Clendenen lead with six kills and junior Belle Ewing scored on five aces.

The Wolverines were 10-20 on the season entering this week.

NV/OM finishes its regular season Thursday, Oct. 9, with two matches at Grand View Christian, against the host Thunder as well as Panorama.

Monday, Oct. 13, the Wolverines travel to Southeast Warren to begin Pride of Iowa Conference play.
