Greenfield’s comprehensive plan update was due to enter the formal review and adoption stage this week with two upcoming public hearings, officials with the firm MSA Planning Services said.
The planning and zoning commission will hold a 3:30 p.m. public hearing on the matter Thurday, Oct. 16 with one by the city council to follow at their 6:30 p.m. regular meeting Oct. 28.
The comprehensive plan process for the city goes back several months. A comprehensive plan is a planning document that contains information that should be valuable for city officials up to or exceeding 20 years from now to assist them in making long term decisions.
An open house was held May 19 at Hotel Greenfield for the public to look at the plan in progress. More time for public review and input were two key themes that emerged from that event. As a result, approximately one more month was given for gathering information. The plan was updated after that with the new information.
The updated zoning code and zoning map for the city is a related but separate process that is expected to be finished early 2026, officials said.
