One of the generous gifts the Greater Greenfield Community Foundation was given was a grant from the Roy Carver Charitable Foundation. While Adair County is normally out of their funding area they made an exception letting us apply to aid in recovery after the tornado.
All grants GGCF receives and many donations come with very specific restrictions on what we can spend funds on. The Carver grant gave money for two specific needs: medical, as well as youth events and programming.
For anyone who had ER, doctor or hospital visits resulting from the tornado, this grant helped cover any out-of-pocket expenses residents had. It helped replace lost prescriptions, eye glasses, hearing aids and other medical devices. It’s also helping with mental health needs through GGCF’s R.I.S.E. program. If you have had medical expenses, mental health expenses or lost items such as eye glasses, etc. and have not yet submitted for reimbursement, it’s not too late, so please contact GGCF.
GGCF was able to fund several camps through Adair County Conservation, the Adair County Health and Fitness Center and Adair County ISU Extension and Outreach. We have provided free movie days, sponsored t-ball and little league, pool passes, inflatables for the Fourth of July, circus tickets and a whole bonanza of other youth programming last year and continuing on through this year.
GGCF is grateful for organizations like the Carver Foundation in helping our residents with recovery. If you need reimbursements for medical expenses after the tornado and have not yet turned in or with mental health expenses, please call GGCF at 641-745-5904 or email greatergreenfield.@gmail.com.
Private foundations like GGCF run entirely on donations and grants. If you’re looking for a way to give back to your local community, GGCF has a wide variety of projects that aren’t just tornado relief-related. We administer projects in Adair County that benefit communities such as our fundraising for the new Greenfield Pool or the Hill of Zion shelter house. We benefit youth in a variety of ways such as youth programming, children’s community choir and senior scholarships. We also own the Gathering Place which provides a place for the community to gather, hosts concerts and other events, along with housing the much needed hygiene/cleaning/baby pantry. We also distribute help to local community members who are struggling with food insecurity, in need of help with medical bills or housing.
We hope you remember GGCF next time you’re looking to help. Your dollars always stay right here in Adair County to help friends, neighbors and our local communities.
