Wolverines drop two POI matches in Leon

LEON — Nodaway Valley/OM lost a couple of volleyball matches on the road Tuesday, Sept. 23 to Southwest Valley and Central Decatur.

Southwest Valley won that match on set scores of 25-16 and 25-8. SWV junior Ray Helvie (11) and senior Mackenzie Fast (9) combined for 20 kills in the match while Elin Hogan had 22 set assists. Hogan and Helvie each scored twice with aces.

Wolverine senior Emma Boswell finished with seven kills and Mattie Thompson turned in eight assists. Junior Adelaide Livingston had the only ace of the match.

Though the first and second sets went to extra points, Central Decatur picked up a 2-1 win over the Wolverines on set scores of 26-24, 24-26 and 15-13.

Thompson finished with a dozen assists and Livingston added three. Boswell finished with seven kills, sophomore Taylor Laughery six and senior Kylie Nelson five. Senior Izzy Eisbach fired three aces in the match.

No Central Decatur statistics were available as of Friday.

NV/OM, now 9-16 overall and 2-4 in the conference, was scheduled to play Tuesday, Sept. 30 at Southeast Warren against the host Warhawks as well as Mount Ayr. This Saturday, the Wolverines will be in the Greene County tournament in Jefferson with Adair-Casey/Guthrie Center, Carlisle, Carroll High, Greene County, South Hardin, Stanton and Van Meter.

The Wolverines are tied with East Union for sixth place in the conference, ahead of Central Decatur and Wayne. Mount Ayr and Southeast Warren are unblemished at the top.
