VOLLEYBALL: Wolverines top Wayne, swept by Lenox

NV/OM 1-1 in conference play debut

The Wolverines opened the 2025 Pride of Iowa Conference part of their schedule at home last Tuesday, hosting the Wayne Lady Falcons and Lenox Tigers.

The home matches was the second of three home dates for the team. The last is Thursday, Sept. 18 for Senior Night.

Nodaway Valley/OM played well against Wayne, beating the Lady Falcons 2-0 to start conference play on the right foot. The first set’s score was 25-9 and the second set was 25-18. The Wolverines have beaten Wayne in two of the last three seasons and the Lady Falcons were playing in just their third match of the season.

The Wolverines had 17 kills on 45 attacks. Emma Boswell had six and Addison Herr five kills to lead in the match. Mattie Thompson had 12 assists and Allie Cornelison nine digs.

The Wolverines served 45-for-49 with six aces. Thompson led going 12-for-13 with four aces while Cornelison went 11-for-12 with an ace.

NV/OM fell 2-0 to Lenox in the nightcap. The Wolverines were close in the first set before falling 25-20 and in the second set they lost 25-18. The Tigers defeated both of the other teams, going 2-0 on the evening. That 2-0 record ties with Mount Ayr and Southeast Warren for an early conference lead. Both teams’ records moved to 5-8 in 13 matches with the result.

Nodaway Valley had 14 kills off 50 attack attempts. Emma Boswell had five kills while Herr had three to lead the Wolverines. Thompson had nine assists. The Wolverines served 33-for-39 in the match with six aces. Corneilson led at the service line, going 8-for-10 with three aces.
