The Nodaway Valley/OM volleyball team had a busy second half to their week last week, playing in a tournament Thursday at Perry and another one Saturday at Chariton. The Wolverines logged six matches in three days as a result.
The Wolverines won two of the six matches, seeing their record move to 7-12 on the year with the wins.
The Wolverines played Earlham, South Hamilton and Perry in non-conference action at the Perry Invitational. Nodaway Valley/OM beat Perry 2-0 by scores of 21-18 and 21-12, fell 2-0 to Earlham by scores of 21-17 and 23-21 and fell in three sets to South Hamilton 2-1 by scores of 21-17, 9-21 and 8-15.
Against Perry, the Wolverines had 17 kills from seven players, led by Emma Boswell with six. Taylor Laughery and Izzy Eisbach each had three and Addi Herr two. Kylie Nelson, Kiara Stevens and Mattie Thompson each had a kill. Thompson had 14 assists while Allie Cornelison had 11 digs. As a team, the Wolverines served 37-for-40 with two aces led by Addison Herr who was 12-for-12 with an ace.
Against Earlham, Nodaway Valley had 12 kills in the match by four players. Nelson and Emma Boswell each had a team-leading four kills. Herr and Eisbach each had two kills.Thompson had eight assists and Corneilson led with nine digs. NV/OM served 37-for-40 as a team with an ace. Nelson led, serving 9-for-9 in the match.
Facing South Hamilton, NV/OM played a team with 11 match wins. The Wolverines had nine kills to the Hawks’ 28. Emma Boswell had five, Eisbach three and Laughery one. Thompson had nine assists and Cornelison seven digs. The Wolverines served 36-for-40 with four aces, led by Eisbach, who served 12-for-14 with two aces.
In three matches at Chariton, the Wolverines defeated Wayne again, this time on set scores of 22-20 and 21-16. The Wolverines played Martensdale-St. Marys, losing 2-0 (21-16, 21-17) and Chariton, losing a 21-16, 21-16 sweep.
The Wolverines had 11 kills against Wayne by three players led by Emma Boswell with five, Nelson with four and Herr with two. Thompson had 11 assists and Corneilson, Boswell and Eisbach led in digs with four each. NV/OM served 38-for-41 in the match with seven aces led by Taylor Laughery who was 10-for-11 with three ace serves.
Against the Blue Devils, the Wolverines were playing in their 17th match to just the 8th match for their conference foe. Nodaway Valley/OM totaled eight kills, led by Emma Boswell with five. Thompson had seven assists and Cornelison had nine digs. The Wolverines served 27-for-32 with three aces, led by Herr, who was 10-for-10 with 2 aces.
Against Chariton, NV/OM had a dozen kills, led by Herr with three. Thompson had five assists and Cornelson six assists. The Wolverines served 31-for-34 with three aces, led by Taylor Laughery who was 8-for-8.
The Wolverines were scheduled to be back in action Tuesday nigh at East Union in a POI triangular with Martensdale-St. Marys and East Union. The Wolverines play at home Thursday, Sept. 18 against Earlham and Lenox.
