The last two hires or appointments were made last Tuesday in a string of changes recently within the City of Greenfield’s leadership, bringing Carl Faust onto the city council and Jalene Sivadge on as city clerk.
Sivadge replaces Laura Benton, who resigned in late June.
According to City Administrator Michelle Carns, seven people applied for the position and six were passed on to an interviewing panel that comprised of stakeholders who will work with the new city clerk. A rubric was used so that feedback was consistent. Two candidates then moved on as finalists for second interviews.
Sivadge brings a background of strong customer service and recording keeping to the table.
According to the Iowa League of Cities, a city clerk is a local government official who is responsible for maintaining government records, ensuring official minutes of city council meetings are kept and preparing for elections.
Sivadge’s salary has been set at $53,000 per year.
“She had an excellent interview and she brings a lot of the skills we’re looking for,” Carns said. “She’s a good fit for both her personality and her background and skills.”
Faust expressed interest recently in filling a vacancy created by Brian Fox becoming mayor, replacing former mayor Jimmie Schultz. He was administered the oath of office during last week’s meeting.
“It’s an honor and a privledge to help serve with you guys,” Faust told the other council members. “I hope I can help carry on what you guys are doing.”
In other action, the council:
• approved a contract to replace an automated fueling terminal at the airport
• approved payment of a series of pay applications relating to projects tied to grant funding
• heard an update from Chamber Main Street Director Stacie Eshelman
