Brown appointed mayor of Fontanelle

Will run in November election for mayor or council

Dawn Brown was appointed mayor of Fontanelle during last Tuesday’s city council meeting.

Brown, who had been serving as mayor pro-tem, was appointed after the resignation recently of Michael Walker, who moved away from the community.

Brown was first elected to the council in 2022.

“I ran for council to continue to help this wonderful town continue striving and be a place everyone else wants to call home,” Brown said. “The council appointed me mayor since I was pro-tem and had been doing the meetings for a while already. I myself was nervous not knowing what to expect and if I would have time to fulfill the mayor duties.”

The council has been hard at work recently focusing on several topics. Big items of discusion right now are hiring a police officer, working with nuisance complaints or ordinance violations and working with ordinance updates and codification. The council has held working meetings recently in order to update ordinances and has been working to send out updates and reminders about lawn care, excessive weeds and junk in yards, Brown said.

Brown and her husband Ryan have been married for 13 years. They have three girls. She works full-time at Cardinal IG, is a member of the Fontanelle Enterprise Club and assist with fire department fundraisers because Ryan is a firefighter.

Brown will be on the ballot Nov. 4. For what, she isn’t sure yet.

“I am not 100% sure if I am running for council or mayor, but I will be running. I want to make sure I am doing right by the community and make sure I can dedicate the allotted time for Mayor,” she said.
