Emmanuel Family Fun Day Saturday

Emmanuel Lutheran Church is hosting a Family Fun Day for the community 5:30 p.m. Saturday, July 26 in the Fontanelle City Park.

Activities will include a meal (served at 6:30 p.m.), barrel train rides, a bounce house, crafts, water games and more.

All are welcome!

Pork burgers provided and served by the Adair County Pork Producers.

Simply Seger show coming to WCC

The Warren Cultural Center in Greenfield presents “Simply Seger,” the ultimate Bob Seger tribute experience, 7 p.m. Saturday, July 26.

Filling the role of Bob Seger is former Greenfield resident Tim Gazaway, who was once lead singer/guitarist for the group Barney Fife.

For half a decade, the nine Simply Seger artists have been on a mission to keep the heartland rock legend’s music alive in all its glory. Simply Seger isn’t just a tribute band; it’s a musical time machine that transports you to the unforgettable era of classic rock and roll.

With precision and passion, Simply Seger recreates the soulful raspy voice, the driving rhythms and the lyrical storytelling that made Bob Seger a rock icon. From “Night Moves” to “Turn the Page,” every note and nuance is delivered with the same heart and soul that made Seger’s music resonate with generations.

The energy is electric, the atmosphere nostalgic and the music timeless. Add this band of established players with Tim Gazaway’s look and vocals, as well as the band’s iconic stage presence, and you will realize Simply Seger’s attention to detail is unmatched.

Greenfield resident to join Nashville musician at WCC

Denver Bierman of Nashville and an orchestra of central Iowa players, including Greenfield resident Zack Valentine on lead alto saxophone, will perform at the Warren Cultural Center 7 p.m. Friday, Aug. 1. Admission will be free will donation at the door with a love offering taken during the concert to help with Denver’s expenses.

Composer/Arranger/Bandleader Bierman formed Denver and the Mile High Orchestra with a group of friends at Belmont University in 1999. They have traveled the world, playing at churches, conferences and festivals. They performed at two Olympic Games (2002 in Salt Lake City and 2004 in Athens).

Blending a horn section, along with jazz and big band roots, Denver and the Mile High Orchestra have created a power funk sound that defies description and is unlike any other. With Bierman writing and arranging the band’s music, the diverse sounds of legends such as Stevie Wonder, Chicago and Earth Wind and Fire combine for a fresh look at contemporary pop.

Bierman is devoting this year to Christian music — with a Big Band sound. Besides lead vocals, he also plays trumpet. While the music is what defines the band, the live show makes a fan for life. Tight production, a lot of fun and the unexpected make Denver and the Mile High Orchestra an experience like no other.

“It’s inspiring for different reasons,” Bierman said. “There’s nothing like being with people in that moment with you, involved with you, inspired by your songs. There’s nothing better than that.”

WC Iowa Gospel Sing Aug. 2

The West Central Iowa Gospel Sing, formerly known as the Guthrie County Southern Gospel Sing, will be 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 2 at The Gathering Place in Greenfield.

Acts on the docket for the program are Higher Power, Liberty Belles, Formans, Ambassadors of Grace, Loynachans, Craig Kruse, Sounds of Inspiration, Hillsong, Heaven Bound Gospel Band, True Love, Doc McCauley and Phil Hague.

Doors will open at 9:45 a.m. Admission is free will donation and seating and food are available.
