The Nodaway Valley Wolverine girls and boys track teams ran at the Southwest Valley co-ed in Corning on Thursday, May 8.
Girls
The girls were led by a pair of relay events and an event win by junior Izzy Eisbach.
Maddie Weston had a pair of runner-up finishes in individual events at the meet. She was second in the 100-meter dash in 13.36 and placed second in the 200m dash in 27.74.
Eisbach won the 1,500m run event with a time of 5:12.51. That time is a season best for Eisbach so far. Heading into this week, her time was second-fastest in the POI this season.
The Wolverines participated in a pair of relays at the meet with a runner-up finish in the distance medley and the sprint medley. The Wolverines were second in the distance medley with the team of Maddie Weston, Haisley Zoubek, Allie Cornelison and Eisbach in a time of 4:35.46. The Wolverines placed third in the sprint medley with the team of Weston, Corneilson, Zoubek and Eisbach in a time of 2:01.50.
Other individuals who had season-best times were Corneilson with a sixth-place finish in the 200m dash in a season-best time of 29.20 and Kylie Nelson with an eighth-place finish in the 400m dash in a season-best time of 1:09.42.
Nodaway Valley ran at the Pleasantville co-ed May 12. The meet was the last one scheduled before the Wolverines run in a Class 1A state qualifying meet at Madrid on Thursday, May 15.
Boys
Trent Warner won the only event for the boys in Corning, throwing 53-01 in shot put to win. He was additionally runner-up in discus with a throw of 147-06. Logan Stanton was to-10 in long jump, finishing seventh with a leap of 16-03.
Nodaway Valley had three relay events place in the top-5 of their respective events. The Wolverines’ top relay was their 4x800m team that placed third. The team of Haden Colton, Luke Kading, Paul Kading and Keyin Steeve finished in 8:58.85. The distance medley was fourth with Erik Jensen, Titan Foster, Eli Harris and Gabe Winkelmann in 4:01.38.
The individual events are where the Wolverines collected six season bests. In the 100m dash, Foster placed 14th in a season-best time of 12.33. Harris also had an eighth-place finish in the 100m dash in 12.02 and an eighth-place finish in the 400m hurdles in 1:01.37.
Winkelmann was runner-up in the 3200 (10:23.89) with a season-best time. Cheribum Mercado was fifth in that race. Luke Kading took second in the mile (4:58.57) and was fifth in the 800 (2:14.57) with a season-best.
Caleb Christensen was fourth in the 200 with a season-best and Haden Colton was sixth in the 400.
Griswold won the meet with a team score of 135.5 and ran away with the meet title. AHSTW was a distant second with 88 points. Bedford was third with 72 points. Nodaway Valley scored 69.5 points for fourth place.
Teams cap regular season in Pleasantville
Nodaway Valley’s boys and girls track and field teams finished off the regular season Monday at Pleasantville. The boys brought home fourth place with 76 points and the girls scored 54 for eighth place.
The girls were paced by a couple of runner-up finishes. Eisbach was second in the 1500 (a personal record 5:12.20) and anchored a second-place distance medley (Weston, Zoubek, Cornelison and Eisbach) that ran a 4:35.75.
On the boys side, highest finishers were Warner, Mercado and Luke Kading, who all won events. Warner took top honors in the shot put with a heave of 53-08.50, Mercado won the 3200 (11:47.40) and Luke Kading won the 1600 (4:53.27). The distance medley (Jensen, Foster, Harris and Winkelmann) won with a season-best time of 3:49.83. Events finishing second were Warner in the discus (145-08), Harris in the 400m hurdles (1:00.70) and the 4x800m quartet of Haden Colton, Luke Kading, Paul Kading and Steeve (9:00.03).
NV competes Thursday at a Class 1A state qualifying meet at Madrid.
