Rardin, Miller lead Wolverine boys at POI

Two go sub-90 at Lenox

Wolverine boys golfer Sam Miller hits an approach shot during Pride of Iowa Conference golf action in Lenox.

A couple of Nodaway Valley boys golfers turned in sub-90 scores to lead the Wolverines in the Pride of Iowa Conference Tournament last Wednesday at Three Lakes Golf Club outside Lenox.

The conference meet featured all nine teams in the league, with Mount Ayr winning on a 302-stroke day. Wayne was second with 328, Southeast Warren third with 334 and Nodaway Valley fifth with a 347.

Sophomore Ty Rardin was NV’s best golfer on the day with an 80. He finished with 42 on the front nine and lowered his score by four strokes for a 38 on the back.

Sam Miller was two strokes over Rardin with a 42-40 total of 82.

Other Nodaway Valley scores were Derek Raasch with 91, Jack Berg with 94, Ty Strode with 94 and Collin Akers with 98.

East Union’s Zayne Eslinger finished as medalist with a 70, shooting a 35 on the front and back nines. Tanner Streit of Mount Ayr was runner-up with a 74.

NV played Monday in a four-team invitational hosted by Southwest Valley at Corning’s golf course. Other teams involved were Diagonal, East Union and Southwest Valley.

At home for the only time this season, the Wolverines were set to host a Class 1A sectional at 10 a.m. Wednesday. Teams coming to town for that are Adair-Casey/Guthrie Center, CAM, Exira-EHK, Griswold, Oakland Riverside and Woodbine. Those who advance will play a week later in a district meet at Crestwood Hills Golf Club in Anita.
