NV girls sixth in conference meet

Nodaway Valley’s girls golf team placed sixth in the nine-team Pride of Iowa Conference Tournament hosted by Central Decatur at the Leon Golf and Country Club.

The Wolverines scored a 440-stroke day. Mount Ayr finished with the team title, firing a group total of 374. Martensdale-St. Marys was runner-up with 378 and Southwest Valley third with 395.

Mallory Russell was NV’s team leader on the day, shooting a 97 for sixth place. Delaney Blomme was next, finishing 21st with a 111.

Mount Ayr’s Jaylee Shaffer won the medalist honors, shooting a low score of 70.Martensdale-St. Mary’s Carly Franey was the medalist runner-up with a score of 89.

Other Nodaway Valley scores were Taryn Guttierrez 115, Brailyann Coffman 117, Chloe Rardin 120 and Aleyah Pilgreen 121.

The Wolverines began the week with a meet at Happy Hollow Country Club hosted by Southwest Valley on Monday. The other teams at the meet were Diagonal, East Union and Southwest Valley. Nodaway Valley will then play Friday, May 16, in a Class 1A Regional meet at Lenox. Teams joining them in the postseason meet are Girswold, Diagonal, Southwest Valley, Mount Ayr, Bedford, East Union, Sidney and Lenox. Those who advance play a week later in Anita.
