Stacy Luhrs, an RN at Adair County Health System, was recently honored with The DAISY Award For Extraordinary Nurses. The award is part of the DAISY Foundation’s programs to recognize the super-human efforts nurses perform every day.

ACHS officials said they are proud to recognize Luhrs as their DAISY Award winner. Described by a patient as “my favorite nurse,” she consistently demonstrates compassion, professionalism and dedication, a release said. She is very knowledgeable, always friendly, proactive and responsive. These are all qualities that make her a trusted mentor and role model to her peers and a true leader in patient care.

The not-for-profit DAISY Foundation is based in Glen Ellen, California, and was established by family members in memory of J. Patrick Barnes. Barnes died at age 33 in late 1999 from complications of Idiopathic Thrombocytopenic Purpura, a little known, but not uncommon, auto-immune disease. The care he and his family received from nurses while he was ill inspired this unique means of thanking nurses for making a profound difference in the lives of their patients and patient families.

“When Patrick was critically ill, our family experienced first-hand the remarkable skill and care nurses provide patients every day and night,” FAAN CEO and Co-Founder Bonnie Barnes said. “Yet these unsung heroes are seldom recognized for the super-human work they do. The kind of work the nurses at ACHS are called on to do every day epitomizes the purpose of The DAISY Award.”

“Stacy exemplifies the heart of nursing,” Chief Nursing Officer Philicia Hancock said. ”Her compassion, clinical expertise, and unwavering dedication to her patients and team truly set her apart. We are honored to recognize her with the DAISY Award, she is a role model for us all.”

ACHS also extends their heartfelt appreciation to all of the DAISY Award nominees, each one represents the compassion, dedication and excellence that define their nursing team.

DAISY Award nominees were Aubrie Keller, Emily Kuhns, Courtney Chafa, Amber Rinke, Tiffany Jackson, Adrienne Heckman, Beth Hansen, Jessica Mathiews, Madison Fredrichsen, Luhrs, Erica Kitt, Stephanie Linxviler and Wendy Seddon.
