Junior Mallory Russell has continued her ascent as one of the top female golfers in the Pride of Iowa Conference this season after she medaled yet again at a meet last Monday in Indianola.
Russell was meet medalist with a 96, holding off Martensdale-St. Marys’ Kathryn Ballard who carded a runner-up round of 97 strokes.
Russell is fourth right now of 49 girls in the Pride of Iowa Conference with a 48-stroke nine-hole average and is second among those with 18-hole rounds at a 96.
At Deer Run as a team, the Wolverines were second with a 466 as Martensdale-St. Marys won the meet with 426 and Southeast Warren and Lenox tied for fourth.
Other Nodaway Valley scores were Aleyah Pilgreen 120, Delaney Blomme 123, Brailyann Coffman 127, Taryn Gutierrez 134, Chloe Rardin 134.
Southeast Warren had Jessica Lillig leading the way with 119 while Lenox’s Sadie Brown was leader for the Tigers with a 125.
The boys were also in Indianola, facing the same three opponents as the girls. The Warhawks claimed the meet title with a team score of 357 for the 18-hole event. SEW collected the top two scores with medalist Lucas Dirkx with a score of 87 and runner-up medalist Drake Steil with a score of 88. Five of the six Warhawk scores were below 100 at the meet.
Nodaway Valley was third with a team score of 403. Sam Miller led Wolverine scores with a 94. Other Nodaway Valley scores were Ty Rardin 100, Ty Strode 103, Jack Berg 106, Derek Raasch 108 and Collin Akers 131.
Lenox was the runner-up with a team score of 390. The Tigers were led by three sub-100 scores from Laramie Stoakes (92), Chase O’Riley (97) and Dayton Tull (98). Martensdale-St. Marys was fourth with 426 points, led by Cale Morrow’s 101-stroke day.
NV learned Monday that it will host a Class 1A sectional meet Wednesday, May 14 in Greenfield.
