A lot of laughs are promised by those who are performing in Nodaway Valley’s spring play that is due for two performances this weekend.
“Goldilocks on Trial” is set for 7 p.m. performances Friday, May 2 and Saturday, May 3 at the Warren Cultural Center.
A spin off of “Goldilocks and the Three Bears,” this show gets into a precarious situation.
“The three bears are taking Goldilocks to trial for breaking and entering and eating their porridge,” sophomore Taylor Day said. “There are a lot of jokes in it.”
Day portrays Mama Bear, Papa Bear is Micah Cronk and Baby Bear is Edan Shilling. Goldilocks is portrayed by Melanie Kilborn. Judge Wallabee is Josh Cronk. The Bare family thinks Goldie should be found guilty, but witnesses like a blind witch, a forgetful old woman who lives in a shoe, a dwarf, a skittish tuffet-tester and a country boy so dumb he’d trade beans for a cow make it difficult to build a case against Goldilocks.
A senior, Josh Cronk has performed many times at Nodaway Valley, though this is the last of only spring plays he has participated in.
“It’s been really fun doing it; it’s an exciting show to be in,” he said. “This play is a one-act, compared to other musicals and plays we’ve done. There is only one scene, so there’s no transition scenes.”
The result is laughs throughout the show.
“The three bears are taking Goldilocks to trial for breaking and entering and eating their porridge,” Day said. “There are a lot of jokes in it.”
Micah Cronk describes his character as a southern country guy, saying it was fun making that character come alive.
The students are thankful to have a facility like the Warren Cultural Center to perform in. The high school auditorium is closed right now because of a lighting replacement project.
“If it wasn’t for that, we might not have a play,” Micah Cronk said.
“This is a very fun play. It’s very funny with a lot of jokes,” Josh Cronk added. “It’s a very family-friendly type of play and a lot of fun to be a part of.”
