Two girls captured top-three performances to lead the Nodaway Valley girls track and field squad in a meet Monday, April 21 at Van Meter. It was the Wolverines’ only meet last week because a meet at Martensdale-St. Marys was canceled due to weather.
In Van Meter, NV’s girls placed 12th, scoring 18 points. Van Meter won the team title on its home track with 121 points and Des Moines Christian was 20 points behind in second place.
The Wolverine boys, who scored 38 points, were eighth in the team standings. Prairie City-Monroe was meet champion with 140, Knoxville was second with 116 and Des Moines Christian third with 104.5.
Senior Maddie Weston led the Wolverines with a third-place finish in the 100-meter dash in a time of 13.48 seconds. She also placed sixth in the 200m dash in a time of 27.73.
Junior Izzy Eisbach added a fourth-place finish in the 1,500m run in a time of 5:17.24.
The Wolverines competed in a pair of relays at the meet. The Wolverines’ top relay finish was a sixth-place finish in the sprint medley. Allie Cornelison, Maddie Weston, Kylie Nelson and Izzy Eisbach finished in a time of 2:02.76.
One event win on the night for the boys was earned by Trent Warner in the shot put. The senior standout thrower’s winning throw was 51-1.25. He was also fourth in discus with a best throw of 137-03. Cassius Burnside turned in a top-10 finish in long jump.
Gabe Winkelmann was runner-up on the track in the 3200-meter run in 10:27.70 and added to it with a fifth-place time of 4:47.93 in the 1600. Eli Harris was top-five in the 400m hurdles, finishing fifth in 1:01.95.
Other Wolverines with individual top-10 finishes were Haden Colton in the 400m dash, Luke Kading in the 1600, Keyin Steeve in the 100m high hurdles and Titan Foster in the 400m hurdles.

Nodaway Valley’s distance medley relay of Steeve, Harris, Foster and Luke Kading were the highest-finishing relay for the Wolverines, placing fifth in 4:04.92.
