Historical Society Chicken and Biscuit Dinner

The Adair County Historical Museum will host its chicken biscuit dinner 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Sunday, May 5.

Chicken and biscuits, homemade cole slaw, cranberry sauce, green beans and corn and desserts.

There will also be silent auction items available to bid on. The museum opens for the season May 1.

NV Alumni Banquet May 3

The Nodaway Valley Alumni Banquet is set for Saturday, May 3 at 16 Oaks in Fontanelle.

Graduates from Bridgewater, Fontanelle, Greenfield and Nodaway Valley are welcome to attend.

The schedule for the event includes: 5 p.m. Happy Hour, 6 p.m. Dinner, 7 p.m. Program/Annual Meeting and 7:30 p.m. Music and Cocktails.

The food is being catered by Lidderdale. The entertainment will be music by request on the Blast from the Past jukebox.

Traveling Renaissance Village May 10-11

The Traveling Renaissance Village will make another appearance Saturday and Sunday, May 10-11 at the Adair County Fairgrounds.

The event will feature sword fighting, belly dancing, fire shows, food and more.

Orient library garden fair May 10-11

The Orient Community Library will hold its annual plant sale and garden fair 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday and Sunday, May 10-11, at 118 Jackson Street in Orient. There will be food and vendors Saturday and only a plant sale Sunday.

The event will include homemade/handcrafted items Saturday with a good selection of perennials from local gardens, annuals for a colorful garden, several varieties of tomatoes and peppers, herbs and ornamental grasses and more.

Sponsored by Friends of the Library, with all proceeds benefiting the Orient Community Library, located on the east side of the Orient-Macksburg Community School.

O-M Comp II class to present May 14

The Orient-Macksburg High School Composition II class will present 10 a.m. May 14 “Lessons Learned: The Orient-Macksburg Effect” in their classroom at the school.

The program is expected to cover the last chapters of Orient-Macksburg Community School District’s existence and the factors that have plagued dying Iowa schools over time.

Commemorative one-year event for tornado May 21

To commemorate one devastating day, one minute of destruction and one year of rebuilding, an event has been planned for Wednesday, May 21, hosted by some of the community pillars that stepped up immediately following the tornado that hit Greenfield on the same date last year.

The event will include:

• Breakfast at St. John’s Catholic Church

• Lunch at Greenfield United Methodist Church

• Ringing of the bells and prayer service at The Gathering Place

• Resources and discussion topics by the Rural Action Partnership

• Supper and program in the Courtyard

All activities and meals are free.

Join the community in honoring what was lost, acknowledging those who greatly helped and appreciating our progress.

Let’s Math Summer Camp

Keep your math mind growing this summer with interesting and engaging problem solving. This is nothing like math class!

Open to incoming fifth and sixth graders, the Let’s Math Summer Camp will be 10-11:30 a.m. June 16-20 and 23-27 at The Gathering Place.

This event is free of charge thanks to the Greater Greenfield Community Foundation and a T.N. Howe Grant.

Fitness Center Kids Summer Camp

Coming in June, the Adair County Health and Fitness Center will host summer camps for kindergarten through fifth graders and for preschoolers. The older group will meet Tuesday and Thursday mornings and the preschool on Wednesdays.
