Wolverines strong on the oval at Woodward-Granger

Throws, distance events lead the boys

Nodaway Valley

Facing their second track meet in three days, Nodaway Valley competed at Woodward-Granger Thursday, April 10. It came two days after the Wolverines picked up a Tuesday meet at Panorama because their home meet Monday was canceled due to cold temperatures.

The boys were third and girls fifth.

Racking up 75 points for their highest team finish so far, the boys had 20 season best performances as a group behind three event wins: Trent Warner in shot put (49-10.50) and discus (142-01) and Gabe Winkelmann in the 1600 meters (4:53.73).

Still on the boys side, a pair of runner-up finishes were earned by Luke Kading in the 1600 (5:00.14) and the 4x800m relay, which included Kading, his brother Paul, Haden Colton and Winkelmann (9:04.30).

Third-place finishers for NV were Eli Harris in the 400m hurdles (1:02.64), Titan Foster in the 400m dash (57.06) and Cheribum Mercado in the 3200 (11:49.88), all who had personal bests.

The girls set seven new season best times in placing fifth with 47 points. That was a season-high point total for the team. Five events were top-three at the meet.

Kylie Nelson, Izzy Eisbach, Allie Cornelison and Ava Herrick ran a second-place time of 11:45.03 in the 4x800m relay. Senior distance runner Jazz Christensen was runner-up in the 3000 (13:45.53) with a season best time. Senior sprinter Maddie Weston was second in the 100 with a season best time of 13.31 and second in the 200 in 27.91. Eisbach placed second in the 800, with a season best time of 2:35.89.
