Golfers tee off the season at Griswold

Both of Nodaway Valley’s golf teams embarked on the 2025 season last week with triangular meets Monday, April 7 at Griswold.

The Wolverines shot a team-low 208 on the boys side to win the three-team event that included the host Tigers as well as Essex. Hogan Hook of Griswold was medalist with a 44 while Essex’s Kaden Buick took the runner-up placing with a 48.

Both firing 47s, Sam Miller and Ty Rardin led Nodaway Valley. Other scores for the Wolverines were Jack Berg with 56, Derek Raasch 58, Ty Strode 61 and Collin Akers 67.

There are no senior boys out for golf and nine are on NV’s roster this year. Juniors are Strode, Dyllan Shannon and Gavin Meisenheimer. Akers is a sophomore, as is Jett Christensen, Miller, Raasch and Rardin. Berg is the lone freshman.

NV was slated to play in the Southwest Iowa Cup Tuesday at Crestmoor Golf Club in Creston. Other teams participating were to include the hometown Panthers, East Union, Clarke, Mount Ayr, Lenox and Winterset.

In Griswold, the Wolverine girls were the only school participating to register a team score. The Wolverines carded a 230 with runner-up medalist Mallory Russell leading the way with a 48. Her score was one stroke over medalist Joanna Reynolds of Griswold.

Other NV scores included Taryn Guttierez with a 57, Delaney Blomme with a 59, Aleyah Pilgreen with a 66, Brailyann Coffman with a 67 and Chloe Rardin with 76.

There are six girls out for golf this season at NV. They’re led by Blomme as the only senior, then juniors are Coffman, Rardin and Russell. Gutierrez and Pilgreen are the freshmen.

The girls were also to golf at Creston Tuesday. After the upcoming Easter weekend, Nodaway Valley will be part of a triangular hosted by Martensdale-St. Marys at Deer Run Golf Club Monday, April 21.
