GIRLS TRACK: Wolverines, Bulldogs compete at Bedford

The Nodaway Valley girls track and field squad was eighth with 32 points in a 10-team meet at Bedford last Tuesday, April 1, to kick off the season.

One event win and two runner-up efforts paved the way for the Wolverines.

Fremont-Mills won the meet, psoting 156 points. Griswold was a distant second with 78 and the hometown Bulldogs third with 67.

Junior Izzy Eisbach won the 1500 meters in a time of 5:46.11. She was also second in the 800-meter run in a time of 2:38.53. That time is currently the top time in the Pride of Iowa conference among 27 runners this season.

Also placing second in an event was senior Maddie Weston. A state qualifier last year in the 100-meter dash, she was second in that at Bedford in a time of 14.01. Her time is currently fifth-fastest among 100 runners in the POI.

In the 100-meter hurdles, Allie Cornelison placed ninth in 19.12 seconds. Also placing top-10 in events were Haisley Zoubek in the 100 in 15.08, Kylie Nelson sixth in the 800 in 2:56.07, Jazz Christensen sixth in the 1500 in 6:26.91 and Ava Herrick placing seventh in the 1500 in 7:01.05.

Corneilson was sixth in the 100 in a time of 14.63 and Weston added a sixth-place finish in the 200 in 30.18.

The Wolverines had one relay place in the top-5. That finish came from their sprint medley relay. The foursome of Cornelison, Weston, Zoubek and Eisbach finished in 2:07.11.

NV had no field event entries in this meet.

Emma Boswell had the highest finishes for Orient-Macksburg, capturing silver medals in the long jump and high jump. She was also seventh in the 200m dash. She was on a second place 1600m distance medley team that also had Marissa Cass, Mattie Thompson and Ella Boswell on it.

Cass took third in the 100 and 200 while placing fifth in high jump.

Thompson was 12th in the 200 and Ella Boswell 13th in long jump.

Carter Osborne threw for 13th place in discus and 20th in shot put.

Kenna Fletchall was 12th in the 1500 and 17th in the 100.

NV’s home meet Monday was canceled due to inclement weather.
