Supervisors OK resurfacing of P-48

Adair County Engineer Nick Kauffman sought and received approval of a four-county project to resurface a road in the northeast part of the county.

The project involves P-48, which creates boundaries between Adair and Madison County as well as Guthrie and Dallas counties, extending north to the Dexter city limits.

Approximately eight-tenths of a mile in the 1.16 miles project is contained within Adair County.

The entire project is expected to cost just over $2.1 million, with Adair and Madison counties paying $608,535 each and Dallas and Guthrie $292,465 each. With grant funding for the project totaling $310,000, total cost to the counties is $1.8 million.

The county will pay for the project, which goes to bid letting in May, out of farm to market accounts.

Kauffman said there isn’t much else on the horizon for projects that will majorly impact travel around the county.

“We’re going to have several bridge projects coming — we have four under contract right now and some won’t be built until summer — but we shouldn’t have any paved road closures this year except P-48,” he said.

Kauffman said the Iowa DOT has a bridge project pending between Bridgewater and Fontanelle on Highway 92 and another on a bridge east of Greenfield west of the Stuart curves. They also have more work pending on Highway 25 south of Greenfield.
