City Council: City won't do private locates anymore

Greenfield City Council

According to action during the Greenfield City Council’s Tuesday, Nov. 19 meeting, city employees will no longer perform locates for a property owner’s sewer line.

City Clerk Laura Benton said that the council decided that locating a line for a resident puts too much liability on the city if it is located incorrectly. A line was recently damaged when other work was being completed.

The city says homeowners are responsible for the line from the main to the house.

Information is available at Greenfield City Hall to property owners that will be able to help them do a third-party search for such lines, like maps and other documents.
