Zack Gebbie reaches second round of postseason golf

Golf team members Ty Rardin, Jack Jensen, Bradley Gebbie, Zack Gebbie, Landon Klobnak and Xander Hogan.

Nodaway Valley senior Zack Gebbie is advancing to the next round of the postseason after placing as one of the top finishers at a sectional meet hosted by Tri-Center at Quail Run Golf Club outside Neola last week.

Gebbie shot an 18-hole score of 73 which included a 35 on the first nine holes and a score of 38 on the second nine.

The Wolverine team did not advance and saw their season end. Nodaway Valley placed fifth in the team scores with a team score of 358.

The meet saw the end of a talented senior class for NV. With the season’s end, the Wolverines say goodbye to seniors Landon Klobnak, Bradley Gebbie, Xander Hogan and Jack Jensen.

“With five seniors on the team, we knew this could be our last shot together. Luckily, the weather was on our side, and the calm conditions were a nice change. While we tied for fourth out of eight teams, Zack’s standout performance, with a personal best of 73, means he’s headed to districts next Monday, May 13,” said Nodaway Valley coach Joel Klobnak.

Coach Klobnak also pointed out that Hogan is one who has “significantly improved” through his career, and he said, “I couldn’t be more proud of his hard work and dedication.”

“While golf has come to a close for four of these seniors, I hope they take the lessons of the course and translate them into their lives. Now, we focus on Zack and the next step,” said Klobnak.

The medalist at the meet was Axton Miller from OABCIG with a score of 65. Ethan Konz from Treynor was the medalist runner-up with a score of 71.

After Gebbie, Hogan shot a score of 89 with scores of 43 on the first nine holes and 46 on the second nine holes. Landon Klobnak was next with a score of 98 with scores of 48 and 50. Jensen also shot a score of 98. He shaved off four strokes from his first nine-hole score of 51, to shoot a 47 on the second nine. Bradley Gebbie added a score of 101 and Ty Rardin a 111.

Treynor won the sectional meet with a team score of 306 followed by OABCIG in second with 317 points. Missouri Valley placed third with 321 points and AHSTW was fourth with a team score of 358. The Wolverines were the only Pride of Iowa Conference school playing at the meet.
