For second consecutive year, NV's girls survive first round

For the second straight year, the Nodaway Valley girls golf team has qualified for a Class 1A regional meet. Last week the Wolverines were the runner-up team at the Class 1A regional meet at Diamond Trail Golf Club outside of Lynnville. The Wolverines were the second-place team with a collective team score of 429.

Fellow Pride of Iowa Conference member Martensdale-St. Marys won the regional meet with a team score of 406 points.

Kathryn Ballard from Martensdale-St. Marys was the medalist at the meet with a score of 93. Nodaway Valley’s Ashlyn Gutierrez was the medalist runner-up with a score of 98. Nodaway Valley added top-10 finishes from Mallory Russell and Bella Hogan and a 12th place finish from Brailyann Coffman. Russell shot a score of 105 for seventh and Hogan shot a score of 112 for 10th place. Coffman had a score of 114.

The Wolverines and Blue Devils will now travel to Moravia on Wednesday to play in a regional final meet there. Teams from regionals at Sigourney and New London also funnel into this meet. Other teams joining Nodaway Valley are from the Sigourney sectional, Highland and BGM, and the New London sectional, New London, Louisa-Muscatine, and Wapello.

The Wolverines will not be the only POI school advancing in Class 1A as Mount Ayr was the winner at the Lenox sectional meet and will play at Crestwood Hills Golf Course in a regional final at Anita.
