TRACK: Payne's 200 gold leads Bulldogs at Bluegrass meet

Mason Payne captured a win in the 200-meter dash, leading his Orient-Macksburg Bulldogs in a Bluegrass Conference meet Monday, May 6 on the campus of Graceland University in Lamoni.

Payne outlasted the rest of the field, running a 25.6 seconds race. He was also third in the 100 (12.6), third in the long jump (16 feet, 6 inches) and 15th in discus (77 feet, 1 inch).

Andreas Pierce took seventh in the 100 (12.96), sixth in the 200 (26.15) and was fifth in the 400 (59.23). In long jump, he was eighth with a leap of 15 feet, 9 inches.

Patrick Fletchall was 15th in shot put with a throw of 25 feet, 5 inches.

On the girls’ side of the meet, Emma Boswell had a couple of field event second place finishes and was a part of a relay that finished second. She went 5 feet in high jump and 15 feet 2 inches in long jump. In the 200, she was seventh in 31.10 seconds. She joined Addison Shinn, Brailee Shinn and Marissa Cass to place second in the 4x200-meter relay, with a time of 2:01.68.

Bridget Bracy was runner-up in the 3,000 meters, finishing in 12:53.39.

Cass was third in the 100 (13.92) and high jump (4-08) and fifth in the 200 (30.48).

Addison Shinn took seventh in the 100 (15.80).

Kenna Fletchall threw 19 feet, 1/2 inch in shot put for 15th. She was 18th in discus with a throw of 40 feet, 5 inches.

Carter Osborne had a 13th place finish in shot put (21-05) and 11th place finish in discus (55-01).

Ankeny Christian swept the meet, finishing with 122 points on the girls’ side, just seven points ahead of Lamoni. Lamoni was also second on the boys’ side, with Ankeny Christian winning 196 to 105.
