BOYS TRACK: Warner’s silver shot put finish paces NV at POI

Mount Ayr takes team title, Lenox second

Nodaway Valley junior Trent Warner captured the top Wolverine finish at the 2024 Pride of Iowa Conference meet last week at Mount Ayr. All 10 POI teams competed for the team title.

Warner placed second in the shot put with a best throw of 47 feet, 8 1/4 inches. Warner also was fourth in the discus with a best throw of 133 feet, 3 inches.

Mount Ayr won with a team score of 127 points. Lenox was also over the 100-point mark, scoring 119 points for second. Bedford and Wayne tied for third place with 78 points. Nodaway Valley placed 10th with 32 points.

The Wolverines had six top-10 finishes in individual events — two each for three different Wolverines.

Luke Kading placed fifth in the 1,600-meter run in 5:03.98 for the top NV finish. He was seventh in the 800-meter run in 2:18.51.

Haden Colton was sixth in the 800 in 2:17.10 and ninth in the 1,600 in 5:28.41.

Eli Harris was seventh in the 400-meter hurdles in 1:02.72 and ninth in the 400 in 57.92.

The Wolverines’ best relay finish came from their 4x800-meter relay team of Colton, Ashton Honnold, Harris and Kading. The quartet placed fourth in a time of 9:10.85.
