BOYS GOLF: Gebbies lead the way at POI tourney

Three Wolverines score in the 80s

Led by three scores in the low 80s the Nodaway Valley boy’s golf team finished second at the Pride of Iowa Conference meet last week at Lakeshore Golf and Country Club. The Wolverines and Mount Ayr Raiders battled it out for most of the meet. In the end, the Raiders finished one-stroke better than NV, winning the team title 332 to 333. East Union placed third with 345 points.

Zayne Eslinger of East Union was medalist with a score of 77, which included a 37 on the first nine holes and a 40 on the second nine. Mount Ayr’s Jaxon Greene was runner-up medalist with a 79 that included a score of 38 on the first nine and 41 on the second nine holes.

The Wolverines were next with a pair of scores from seniors Bradley and Zack Gebbie.

Bradley Gebbie shot a score of 82 for the meet to place third overall. Gebbie shot par on four of the first nine holes and had a score of 42 on the first nine holes. On the second nine, Bradley Gebbie shot a score of 39, shaving off three strokes from his first nine score. On the second nine, he shot par on six holes.

Zack Gebbie shot a score of 82 at the meet to place fourth overall. He shot three holes with par and had five holes with one-over par for a first nine-hole score of 39. On the second nine holes, he shot a score of 43 and par on three holes.

Landon Klobnak and Xander Hogan were next in scoring. Klobnak shot an 18-hole score of 83 with scores of 40 and 43. He placed seventh overall with a score of 83, shooting par four times on each of the nine-hole sets. Hogan finished 11th overall with a score of 87. That included a score of 44 on the first nine and 43 on the second nine holes. Hogan shot par on seven of the 18 holes including shooting par on five of the first nine holes at the meet.

Other Nodaway Valley scores were Jack Jensen 35th with a 100 and Sam Miller 40th with a 106.

The Wolverines were scheduled to play in a POI triangular on Monday, May 6 at Happy Hollow Country Club. The Wolverines will be in action Wednesday at a Class 2A sectional meet at Quail Run golf course in Neola. The Wolverines will be joined by AHSTW, Missouri Valley, OABCIG, Treynor, Tri-Center, Underwood, and West Central Valley. Qualifying teams and individuals from the Neola sectional, the Pella Christian sectional, and the Interstate 35 sectional, will compete at the Panorama district meet on May 13.
