Last two outings yielded many season bests for O-M girls

The Orient-Macksburg girls track team set many new season best times and distances in field events last week as the Bulldogs collected their second and third outdoor meet experiences of the season.

The Bulldogs competed at the East Union co-ed Monday, April 8, and at the Guy Clark Relays in Leon Thursday, April 11. The Bulldogs were to run once this week, Thursday, April 18 at East Union. With a small team, and many gone for the state FFA convention early this week in Ames, O-M’s team removed themselves from their regularly scheduled meets on Monday and Tuesday.

The Bulldogs collected nine season bests this past week.

Monday at East Union’s co-ed meet, the girls placed eighth as a team with 41 points out of 11 scoring teams. Wayne won the meet with a team score of 112 while CAM was second with 95 and Bedford third with 86 points.

The Bulldogs had three runner-up finishes at the meet, two being earned by Emma Boswell and another being earned by Bridget Bracy. Boswell was second in the long jump with a best jump of 14 feet, 3/4 inch. She was also second in the high jump with a best jump of 4 feet, 10 inches. She nearly made it three top-10 finishes when she was 11th in the 200-meter dash.

Bracy was the runner-up finisher in the 3,000-meter run in 12:55.30. She also had a pair of fifth place finishes in the 800-meter run in 2:57.33 and the 1,500-meter run in 6:04.37. Bracy’s time in the 1,500 was a new season best in that race.

Marissa Cass was fourth in the 100-meter dash in 14.26 and had a fifth place finish in the 200-meter dash in 29.39. Cass had a sixth place finish in the high jump with a new season best leap of 4 feet, 8 inches.

Also collecting season bests were Carter Osborne in the shot put (20-2 1/2) and Kenna Fletchall (19-05).

Last Thursday at Central Decatur, four Bulldogs secured season bests. Orient-Macksburg was 12th of 14 scoring teams. Interstate 35 won the meet with 129 while Wayne was second and Central Decatur third.

Cass had four top-10 finishes and one season-best time. She was fourth in the high jump and 400-meter dash, placed ninth in the 200-meter dash and 10th in the 100-meter dash. Her time in the 100-meter dash, 13.89, was a season-best.

Bracy had a pair of top-10 finishes in the 1,500-meter and 3,000-meter events. Also collecting season-best times were Addison Shinn and Brailee Shinn in the 100-meter dash and Brailee Shinn in the 200-meter dash.

“It was a rough end to the week,” said O-M coach Becca Ross. “I was sick, we had some kids sick and missed parts of the early and late week, but the girls handled it well. We had some kids get PRs (personal records) and that is good.”
