Ag author to visit Warren Cultural Center

Ag author Chris Jones, writer of “The Swine Republic: Struggles with the Truth About Agriculture and Water Quality,” will visit the Warren Cultural Center 7 p.m. Thursday, March 7, as part of the Successful Communities Speaker Series.

Jones is an advocate for cleaning up Iowa’s impaired rivers, waterways and lakes. His recent book is a rendition of his years long involvement in monitoring Iowa’s waterways as they flow on to the Mississippi and Missouri rivers, and the Gulf of Mexico. He is a retired University of Iowa hydraulic research engineer. Audience input and comments will be welcome.

Soulshine Food Truck and Catering will be available before the event for carry-in.

David Graham and the Eskimo Brothers March 9

Direct from Nashville, David Graham and the Eskimo Brothers appear at the Warren Cultural Center on the square in Greenfield 7 p.m. Saturday, March 9.

For the past 16 years, Graham has been front man for the Nashville-based American roots music trio The Eskimo Brothers. His goals are simple: to be the biggest and best male entertainer he can, and to write and perform songs that are real. David’s influences range from Hank Williams, Willie Nelson and Merle Haggard to Elvis, KISS, Garth Brooks, AC/DC and Bob Seger to Bob Dylan, Aretha Franklin and Frank Sinatra.

David Graham and the Eskimo Brothers is the fifth in WCC’s 2023-24 “Locals and Legends” series.

Irish Session music March 16

Des Moines Irish Session will perform traditional Irish music at the Warren Cultural Center 7 p.m. Saturday, March 16, just in time for St. Patrick’s Day! This is the sixth show of WCC’s 2023-24 “Locals and Legends” series. This group has performed continuously for over 30 years, meeting for an informal, traditional seisiún every Tuesday at various Des Moines area venues.

Storm Spotter class March 20 in Menlo

The National Weather Service is offering a storm spotter training course 7-9 p.m. Wednesday, March 20 at the Menlo Community Building.

The training will be presented by the Des Moines Office of the National Weather Service and is free and open to the public. This training is required every two years for registered storm spotters.
