ACHS excited to bring cardiopulmonary services back

Adair County Health System is excited to bring back Cardiac and Pulmonary Rehab services along with In/Out patient treatments. Monica Christensen, RRT and Becky Gardner, CRTT along with their team of educated individuals have begun their program here at ACHS.

Monica Christensen has been a respiratory therapist for over 35 years. She received her degree from Midland Lutheran College in Fremont, NE. She continued to specialize in respiratory therapy and received her degree from Immanuel Medial Center Omaha, NE.

Becky Gardner has also been a respiratory therapist for 15 years. She received her bachelor’s degree from Iowa State University and continued her education with degree in respiratory therapy.

Cardiac and Pulmonary Rehabilitation helps individuals with pulmonary and Cardiac disease lessen their symptoms by making healthy lifestyle changes and being more active. Both programs provide education and support to manage the individual disease processes. Cardiac Rehab is open to any patient who has Stable Angina, Stable CHF or has recently had a heart surgery. Pulmonary Rehab patients include those with COPD, Asthma, Long Lasting COVID patients, Farmers Lung and Uncontrolled Shortness of Breath.

Currently our programs will run 2-3 sessions per week for a total of 36 sessions, as approved by insurance. If you meet certain medical criteria, some of the cost of the program is covered by Medicare and many private insurance carriers will also cover some of the cost.

Eligibility is based upon the following:

A diagnosis of moderate to severe pulmonary disease.

The results of your pulmonary function test show the severity of your disease and the results are no older than one year.

A non-smoker or participating in a smoking cessation program.

The Respiratory Therapy Department at ACHS provides a comprehensive program of respiratory care service to both inpatients and outpatients with known or suspected pulmonary (lung) disease or dysfunctions. Our respiratory therapists are highly skilled professionals who work to evaluate, treat, and care for patients with breathing disorders caused by several diseases and conditions.

Inpatient services include:

Respiratory Therapy Evaluations.

Nebulizer/MDI instruction & treatments.

Spacer instruction - to help with proper deposition of MDI medications.

InCheck Dial to help with management and instruction of proper MDI.

Acapella to help with sputum removal.

EZPAP to help with deep breathing in conjunction with nebulizer treatments.

Incentive Spirometers.

Peak Flows to help manage asthma patients.

Sleep Apnea Screening - STOP BANG, Overnight Oximeters, Apnea Links

Oxygen delivery, weaning, management & qualification via 6-minute walk tests.

CPAP/BIPAP management & assessment to help patients wear and adjust pressure, as well as card downloads to see patient compliance.

Trach care.

Suctioning.

Outpatient services include:

Home Sleep Testing & Overnight Pulse Oximetry.

Ziopatch Wireless 7-14-day monitor, 24–48-hour Holter Monitors.

Pulmonary Function Testing.

CPAP/BIPAP management.

Pulmonary Rehab

Cardiac Rehab

MDI/DPI Instruction

Home Sleep TestingOur respiratory care therapists treat patients with asthma, Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD), bronchitis, lung cancer, stroke, pneumonia, heart attacks, birth defects, emphysema, cystic fibrosis, or sleep apnea, among others. Trauma victims and surgery patients are also treated by respiratory therapists.
