Hospital reports strong progress on facilities project

A concrete mixer unloads in the north parking lot this week at Adair County Health System, where the first phase of the organization's master facilities plan is underway.

Adair County Health System (ACHS) is closing in on the two-month mark since they broke ground on the first of three phases of their master facility plan.

The construction is off to a great start. ACHS reports concrete work marches on for the north parking lots, but the Wayhe parking lot across the street is open for patient and employee parking.

Steel work continues on the roof, and it is expected to last longer than the concret work.

Concrete work is expected to be completed before winter with the steel work and other mechanical aspects continuing into the spring.

“I am very pleased at the work that has been done thus far,” said Catherine Hillstead, CEO at ACHS. “I look forward to continuing our work with Graham Construction for the next phases of construction at ACHS.”

Phase 1 is estimated to cost $4.2 million, with the entire project estimated at $17.5 over three phases, paid for by bonds that were refinanced early last year.

Future phases of construction will include enhancements and improvements to clinical areas of the hospital.

Blueprints of all three phases of the construction were displayed on easels in the Adair County Ambulance garage during a reception that followed the groundbreaking.
