‘No credible threat’ found during recent incident at WCV school

Law enforcement said they have no reason to believe there was actually a credible threat during an incident Thursday, Sept. 23 at West Central Valley High School. The building was evacuated and searched, then staff and students were allowed to return.

Stuart Police said in a press release they have no reason to believe a credible threat did or does now exist after law enforcement responded to West Central Valley High School Thursday, Sept. 21 at the report of a possible threat that had been made.

Stuart Police were notified at 11:38 a.m. by school staff of the incident. The school activated its evacuation plan as part of usual protocol. Law enforcement from various surrounding agencies responded and conducted an investigation.

“At this time there is no evidence that any credible threat did or now does exist,” said Stuart Police Chief David Reha. “The building was secured and the area of concern searched by law enforcement before students and staff were allowed to return. Out of an abundance of caution, law enforcement officers remained at the school for the remainder of the school day.”

Assisting Stuart Police on scene were the Stuart Fire Department, Stuart Rescue, sheriff officials from Adair, Dallas and Guthrie counties, as well as the Iowa State Patrol and Adair and Guthrie County Emergency Management.
