VOLLEYBALL: Wolverines second at Colfax-Mingo

NV Wolverines

Nodaway Valley volleyball took second in a tournament at Colfax-Mingo Saturday, Aug. 26. It was the first action for the Wolverines of the 2023 season.

The Wolverines were second on criteria — they actually defeated Colfax-Mingo, which won the tournament.

Nodaway Valley opened with a win over Baxter in a pair of competitive sets.

Against the host Tigerhawks, NV won 21-9 in the first frame, then held off a late 18-14 CM lead to win the second 21-19. Senior Lindsey Davis had a team-high eight kills and Genevieve Livingston six. Senior setter Emma Lundy had 15 assists. Livingston had five aces.

Coon Rapids-Bayard topped the Wolverines 2-0 (22-20, 21-14) to force Colfax-Mingo into a potential tiebreaker situation. Davis led the Wolverines with six kills in that match. Lundy had eight assists. Those two players each had one ace.

Win in a sweep over Baxter and the Tigerhawks could put themselves in a tie with Nodaway Valley, and that’s what they did. Colfax-Mingo topped the Bolts in two sets.

Nodaway Valley, which finished with nine wins last season, was scheduled to face non-conference teams AHSTW and Griswold Tuesday, Aug. 29 in a triangular at home. Thursday Nodaway Valley is scheduled to open Pride of Iowa Conference play at home against Southeast Warren.
