AWANA sign-up set for Sept. 6
Cornerstone Fellowship Church will be hosting AWANA again this year 6-7:30 Wednesday nights from Sept. 13-Nov. 15 and Jan. 10-March 13.
AWANA is open to children 3 years of age (before Sept. 15 and bathroom trained) through 6th grade.
AWANA teaches the foundations of God’s Word and Scripture memorization with games, lessons, snacks, and more.
All children and families are invited to a registration and kickoff night 6 -7 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 6 at Greenfield City Park. A meal and games will be provided as well as the AWANA volunteers on hand to meet and greet. If you are unable to make the registration and kickoff night but would still like to register your child, please call 641-743-0221 or stop by Cornerstone Fellowship Church, 2158 Highway 92 Greenfield, from 9-noon or 1-4 p.m. Monday-Friday.
Farm Bureau Harvest Kickoff Lunch
Adair County Farm Bureau invites everyone to its annual Harvest Kickoff Lunch beginning at 11 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 7 in the parking lot north of Adair County Farm Bureau on Highway 25 in Greenfield.
The menu will be pulled pork sandwiches, chips, cookies and bottled water.

Cover Crops class for gardeners
The Orient Community Library will be hosting David Mixdorf, a gardener for 50+ years, 9:30-10:30 Saturday, Sept. 9. He will be presenting “Cover Crops to Improve our Flower Beds and Gardens without Chemicals”. David has been an organic market gardener & has taught gardening classes for the last 12 years. His interest lies in heirloom vegetables & flowers. He collects different varieties of perennial onions, tomatoes, hot peppers and scented geraniums. Cover crops are an effective way to supply and retain nitrogen, increase soil organic matter, reduce soil erosion and suppress weeds. Successful cover cropping requires advanced planning, selecting the right cover crops and planting and terminating them at the right time. In this class you will learn the best cover crops for an Iowa garden, the proper planting times and the proper way to terminate your cover crops.
This class will qualify for Master Gardener Credit.
Veterans Fair Sept. 14 in Greenfield
A Veterans Resource Fair is set for 10 a.m.-1 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 14 at the Adair County 4-H/FFA Building on the Adair County Fairgrounds in Greenfield.
A retirement recognition for Adair County Veterans Affairs Director Duane Avey will accompany a pinning ceremony for all veterans in attendance at 11:30 a.m.
Lunch will be provided by the Adair County Pork Producers and Fareway.
Those in attendace can have their name be entered to win one of two Fareway gift cards.

Picnic theater performance at Wallace Farm
Actress Pippa White of One’s Company will present “Far As the Eye Can See” at the Wallace Farm 5 p.m. Sunday, September 17, just steps away from the nine-acre restored Iowa prairie.
Tickets for the outdoor performance can be purchased online at wallace.org/picnic-theater or by calling the Wallace Farm at 64-337-5019. Two ticket options are available: 1) the performance + picnic meal for $25 per person or 2) the performance only at $15 per person. The picnic menu includes:
