Memorial Day services planned for Monday

Several area organizations have planned Memorial Day services for Monday, May 29, to observe the day set aside to honor those who have died serving the United States’ armed forces.

• In Greenfield, Head-Endres American Legion Post 265 is hosting a service 10 a.m. at the Greenfield Cemetery. The service will include music by the Nodaway Valley High School Band, the placing of poppies on the almost 700 white crosses in the sunken garden, dedicating flags for the Avenue of Flags, the reading of the Honor Roll, a Memorial Day address and more.

• In Fontanelle, Carlson American Legion Post 247 is hosting a service 11 a.m. in the Fontanelle Cemetery. The service will include presentation of new flags for the Avenue of Flags, a Memorial Day Address by Dean Griffith, and more.

• In Bridgewater, the William-Thompson American Legion Post 703 is hosting a 10 a.m. Memorial Day service at the Bridgewater Activity Center. Note the time change from previous years. The service will include a presentation by the American Legion Auxiliary, a Memorial Day Address and a rifle salute by Legionaires.
