Woosley, Buckmiller esteemed for decades in Legion

During a fish fry Friday, March 24 at the Adair County Health and Fitness Center, Greenfield Head-Endres American Legion Post 265 commander Larry Riley gave recognition to Larry Woosley of Greenfield for having amassed 50 years in the organization.

Woosley, who served in the Air Force during the Vietnam War from 1969 to 1970, returned to Greenfield, where he was commander of the local American Legion in 1976.

“I’ve served my country and have been really happy to be a part of the American Legion,” Woosley said.

Also reaching an important milestone is the late Eugene Buckmiller, whose family will soon be receiving a certificate recognizing him for 60 years of involvement in the American Legion.

From Orient, Buckmilller passed away in late November at the age of 92. After graduating from high school, Buckmiller joined the Air Force on Jan. 3, 1951. He was a Korean War Veteran and spent time in Okinawa flying in B-29′s as the Flight Engineer and was honorably discharged July 28, 1954.
