Two champs lead girls on the mats at Iowa Central

HOLSTEIN — SWAT girls wrestling finished two points short of a team championship in the Ridge View Girls Wrestling Tournament on Saturday, Nov. 19.

Lewis Central wrapped up the team title with 146 points.

“Taking second place in such a big tournament is a huge achievement for us. We came together as a team, supported each other from the first whistle to the final hand being raised,” said SWAT head coach Tiffany South.

The Valkyries were led by individual championships by Ady Lundquist (115-pound Gold Bracket) of Southwest Valley and Grace Britten (170-pound Gold) of Nodaway Valley. Lundquist and Britten each pinned their way through the tournament.

Jazz Christensen of Nodaway Valley was second in the 100-pound Gold bracket. She went 1-1 on the day, both pins. Evy Marlin of Southwest Valley was another runner-up in the 135 Gold bracket. She was also 1-1. Haley Armstrong of Atlantic finished second in the 235 Gold division, going 1-1.

The Valkyries were scheduled to wrestle Tuesday, Nov. 22 at Iowa Central Community College in a dual format meet.
