Adair County Elections Deputy Josh Nelson reported a “very efficient” Election Day as unofficial results were released late Tuesday night, Nov. 8.
The Adair County Auditor’s Office reported a very good turnout of voters. There were 3,192 ballots cast of 5,445 possible, amounting to a 58.6% voter turnout.
In the only local contested race, Nathan Baier (395 votes) defeated Doug Davidson (191) for the District 4SE board of supervisors seat. Running unopposed to take a seat in the upcoming District 2NE was current supervisor Jodie Hoadley (573).
County Treasurer Brenda L Wallace (2,884), County Recorder Janelle Schneider (2,870) and County Attorney Melissa S. Larson (2,160) all won re-election unopposed.
At the federal level, Adair County chose Republican incumbent Senator Chuck Grassley (2,278) over Democrat challenger Michael Franken (886) for United States Senate. For the United States House District 3, Adair County went for Republican Zach Nunn (2,165) over Democrat incumbent Cindy Axne (972).
At the state level, Adair County chose incumbent Republican governor Kim Reynolds (and Lt. Governor Adam Gregg) with 2,332 votes to Democrat challenger Diedre DeJear (Eric Van Lancker), who received 760. Rick Stewart (Marco Battaglia) received 79.
Incumbent Paul D. Pate received 2,415 votes for Secretary of State over Joel Miller. For Attorney General, Adair County chose Guthrie County Attorney Brenna Bird (1,921) over incumbent Tom Miller (1,172). The State Auditor race in Adair County went to Todd Halbur (1,795) over incumbent Rob Sand (1,302). Adair County chose Roby Smith (1,894) for State Treasurer over Michael L. Fitzgerald (1,175). Incumbent Secretary of Agriculture Mike Naig received 2,437 votes to John Norwood’s 662.
Rep. Ray Sorensen ran unopposed in State Representative District 23 and received 2,751 votes.
Barbara Kalbach (1,905), Mark Schildberg (2,212) and Pam Wiggins (2,154) were all elected to the hospital board of trustees. Steve Baudler (2,367) and Phil Kading (2,003) each were elected as soil and water conservation district commissioners. Beth Davenport (1,820), Clark R. Dolch (1,922), Sondra A. Baudler (2,124) and Matthew Rohrig (1,964) were all voted in to the county agricultural extension council.
