‘A little more joy’ with new Greenfield decorations

GREENFIELD — With the notion in their hearts that a little more joy wouldn’t hurt local residents these days, the Greenfield Business Women went to work with help from businesses, organizations and individuals around the community to raise money for some new holiday decorations for Greenfield.

The Greenfield Business Women regularly sell wreathes this time of year and have let proceeds from those accumulate over time. That, in conjunction with $4,800 raised over the last year, helped them purchase two sets of decorations for the courtyard, a banner over South 1st Street near Greenfield City Hall and holly that could be added to light poles along Kent Street.

“As I’ve said, it takes a village. Those decorations have gotten much more expensive, so we didn’t have much to do that with. I contacted some of our local businesses, organizations and individuals,” said Greenfield Business Women representative Carol Woosley.

Woosley explains that when the snowflakes were added to light poles around town several years ago, there were the “Christmas Carols” that spearheaded making that happen — Woosley, Carol Baudler of Fountain Florist and the late Carol Miller.

“Carol Baudler was tied up with her business this year and Carol Miller is no longer with us, so I was the only Christmas Carol left,” Woosley said.

The decorations were lit at the end of the Festival of Lights Parade in Greenfield as Santa rode around the square on a Greenfield fire truck. Woosley said that she has heard nothing but positive feedback to the decorations, which bring more color to Greenfield’s lights, which previously only included the white snowflakes.

“To me, it took all of us working together to bring this to fruition. It looks beautiful, I think,” Woosley said. “After the last few years that we’ve had, we all thought that we all need a little more joy in our life.”
