Strong innings boost Wolverines to wins

The Wolverines and Wayne exchanged scores early on before a three-run third inning boosted Nodaway Valley to a 12-2 win Friday, June 18, at Wayne.

The Wolverines were up 3-1 after Wayne scored its first run in the second inning. Wayne was only able to score another run in the third as Nodaway Valley extended the lead with three run innings in the fifth and seventh.

Boston Devault had three hits for the Wolverines with two RBIs and two stolen bases. Mason Mather had two hits and two RBIs. As a team, Nodaway Valley had 14 hits including three doubles. The Wolverines did not walk and had four strikeouts.

Caelen Devault threw three innings for the Wolverines and struck out five. Team totals for Wayne were not available.

Nodaway Valley used 15 hits to win 13-1 Wednesday, June 16 at West Central Valley.

The Wolverines were up 8-0 by the time West Central scored its lone run in the fourth inning.

Caelen Devault led Nodaway Valley with five hits, five RBIs and a stolen base. The Wolverines finished with seven strikeouts and five walks.

Boston Devault and Mason Mather split pitching duties. Mather threw five innings and struck out three. West Central finished with three hits and walked twice.

Nodaway Valley scored early and maintained its lead in a 14-4 win Monday, June 14 at Exira-EHK.

The Wolverines started the game by scoring three in the first inning.

Nodaway Valley added another three in the fourth before the Spartans scored. The Wolverines put the game out of reach by scoring four in the fifth and seventh innings.

Caelen Devault had three hits and four RBIs to lead the team. As a team, Nodaway Valley finished with 13 hits and drew six walks. The Wolverines struck out eight times.

Mathew Weber and Evan Forcht shared pitching duties. Forcht struck out eight.

The Wolverines made quick work of Bedford in a 16-1 win Tuesday, June 15 at Bedford. Weber had three hits and scored two runs. Michael Britten had two hits and four RBIs and three stolen bases. As a team, Nodaway Valley had 12 hits and walked five times.

Caelen Devault threw four innings and struck out six.

Nodaway Valley (9-3) played Southwest Valley Monday and Lenox Tuesday at Greenfield. Scores were not available by press time. The Wolverines play at 5 p.m. Wednesday, June 23 at Orient-Macksburg. Bedford visits Nodaway Valley for a 7:30 p.m. game Thursday, June 24. Central Decatur visits Nodaway Valley for a 5:30 p.m. game Friday, June 25.
