Greenfield

John Louis Novy of Greenfield, loving husband, father and grandfather, joined the Kingdom of Heaven on Saturday, December 12, 2020, at the age of 88. He passed away peacefully at the Adair County Memorial Hospital in Greenfield.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be 10 a.m. Saturday, June 12, 2021, at the St. John’s Catholic Church in Greenfield.

Burial will follow in the Greenfield Cemetery with an honor guard from the Iowa State Patrol and military graveside rites conducted by the Greenfield American Legion Head-Endres Post No. 265 and V.F.W. Post No. 5357.

The Council of Catholic Women will serve lunch in the church basement following the completion of all services. The family wishes to invite all to attend this fellowship.

The family will greet friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday, June 11, 2021, at the St. John’s Catholic Church in Greenfield.

John Louis Novy was born Oct. 7, 1932, at home in rural Adams County, to Lily (Strompp) and Ed Novy. After graduating from Cromwell High School in 1950, he worked for Adams County prior to being drafted in 1953. He served in the U.S. Army as an MP during the Korean War.

On February 18, 1956, he married Jean Marie Jennings at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Lenox. Following his service for our country, he joined the Iowa State Patrol in August 1957, where he retired after 30 years as Trooper 290.

John was preceded in death by his parents; older brothers and their spouses, Leo/Doris and Glen/Bernice. He is survived by Jean, his wife of 64 years, and their 12 children: Keith, Dixon, Carolyn, Linda, Cathy, David, John, Mary, Margaret, Steve, Matt and Mark, his 24 precious grandchildren, 8 great-grandchildren as well as many nieces and nephews.
