Graduation approaching at NV

Graduation week is scheduled for the upcoming week at Nodaway Valley with activities throughout the week celebrating approximately 50 graduates from the school.

Senior Recognition Night is scheduled for 7 p.m. May 11 in the high school auditorium, senior breakfast the next morning and baccalaureate 7:30 p.m. May 12.

According to a release from the NV Ministerial Association, the baccalaureate service will be conducted by pastors and leaders from local churches, with the message, “What is God’s Will for Your Life?” delivered by Steven Broers, pastor of Emmanuel Lutheran Church of Fontanelle.

The program will also include students of the Advanced Music Studies class singing “The Cloths of Heaven.” Congregational hymns will include “Joyful, Joyful We Adore Thee” and “Be Thou My Vision.”

Those attending should wear face masks inside the school, per NV district policy.

Commencement exercises are 1 p.m. Sunday, May 16.

Class colors for the Class of 2021 are purple, black and silver. The class motto is “Take pride in how far you’ve come, have faith in how far you will go.” Their class flower is the sunflower.

Orient-Macksburg graduates are due to cross the stage May 23.

Spring into Health Open House

The Adair County Fitness Center and Adair County Health System (ACHS) will sponsor Spring into Health Open House for Seniors 9 to 11 a.m. May 15 at the fitness center, 202 NW Townline Rd.

All seniors in the community are encouraged to attend the free event, which is designed to promote overall health, including physical health and mental health.

The open house will offer health screenings, information and mini presentations on various health topics. There will also be chair exercises, as well as a drawing for prizes, including free fitness center memberships and other health-related items.

ACHS will have several services represented at the event, including Senior Life Solutions, which provides counseling services for seniors, Rock Valley Physical Therapy, which offers physical, occupational and speech therapy, and others.

Attendees will enjoy a morning with friends and neighbors, as well as cinnamon rolls and coffee, and will receive information to help care for their physical and mental health, which are equally important.

Orient library garden fair and plant sale

The annual Garden Fair and Plant Sale, supporting the Orient Public Resource Technology Center, is 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. May 15 and May 16. This fundraiser will be held at the same location as previous years, 118 Jackson Street, Orient. The second day, May 16, will be the Plant Sale only from 9am-2pm.

The Garden Fair will have several vendors selling homemade or handcrafted items such as hand-loomed rugs, wood plaques and signs, polished rock jewelry, handmade soaps, herbs and spices. There will be an excellent assortment of perennials from local gardens, annuals for a colorful garden and several varieties of tomatoes and peppers, ornamental grasses, some potted bulbs such as cannas and lilies. The Library Board will be providing coffee and cinnamon rolls (until gone) to start the day. Also Little Green Trailer Catering Services will be available 11am-1pm serving a variety of lunch menu items. Cookies will be served by the Library Board for dessert.

Customer parking is north of the Garden Fair, not on the street. Handicap drop off only in driveway.

Remember the vendors and food truck are only there on Saturday, May 15.
