GREENFIELD — Windy and chilly conditions are what golfers battled the in Nodaway Valley’s home opener at Greenfield Country Club Monday as the Wolverines hosted both Mount Ayr and Martensdale-St. Marys.
The boys meet was won by MSM, which carded a team score of 222. Mount Ayr’s 232 was second and NV carded a 239 as a team.
Mount Ayr’s Drew Ehlen was medalist with a 46 and MSM’s Bret Reynolds carded a 50 to be runner-up.
Leading NV was Zack Gebbie with a 56. Other scores were Kaden Herr’s 59, Landon Klobnak’s 60, Brandon Raasch’s 64 and Jack Jensen’s 69.
In the girls meet, Mount Ayr finished with 240, well below Martensdale-St. Marys’ 278. Nodaway Valley did not record a team score.
For the Wolverines, Cadee Firch turned in a 63, Ashlyn Gutierrez a 76 and Allie Herr an 82.
Mount Ayr’s Melaina Haley was medalist with 57, and her teammate, Hallee Stewart, was runner-up with 58.
“I think the wind kept everyone on their toes throughout all nine holes as a few of my starters scored a little higher than usual tonight,” said NV head coach Joel Klobnak. “For us, putting was our biggest struggle, and smart play, or rather smart choices, will be our focus at practice this week. It was a great meet with some great competition, and we are excited for what our season has in store.”
