Fontanelle welcomes experienced city worker into superintendent role

FONTANELLE — The City of Fontanelle welcomes a young man experienced in working for municipalities into the city superintendent position as Joey Miller began that role April 5.

Miller, from Centerville, Louisiana, said he’s excited to get started as a third-generation city superintendent. His father and grandfather were both utility superintendents in his home state.

“A lot of [being interested in this position] has to do with my background as a supervisor and foreman in other jobs. I was a supervisor for the pipeline, and when I was down south, I got a feeling for the aspects of water department work from my dad, because that’s what he does, and his best buddy is in sewer,” Miller said. “Growing up, I used to go to the plant with dad, we’d do the tests, and he’d show me how everything happens and the process of it. It was pretty much a summer activity for me, really. Every summer I got to go hang out with him.”

With water plant and sewer lagoon projects underway for Fontanelle, Miller has lots of goals in his new role as he gets started.

“The town as a whole, could have a lot of improvements made. I want to get the town back to how it used to be. People see the city park and they say ‘this is a nice little town, let’s stop and visit and get to know the people.’ It’s a very friendly town,” Miller said. “We’d like to get it to where it’s totally operational again so we don’t have to rely as much on Greenfield. They supply us with water, which is a big help, but if there’s drought coming up and it doesn’t rain, they’re going to be limited to what they can send us. I know nothing’s going to happen overnight. We’ve just gotta keep on keeping on.”
