County supervisors updated on abandoned properties

GREENFIELD — Adair County Attorney Melissa S. Larson submitted to the board of supervisors an update, prior to their Jan. 20 meeting, regarding a list of vacant properties in Orient that have been court order to be awarded to the city.

The update indicated that Larson had accepted that taxes be abated also and that the supervisors should authorize that, and so they did.

“There were three different properties within the city of Orient that were abandoned and it was brought, at one time, to the county to see if the county should take those over and we would abate those taxes so they weren’t on the record anymore,” said auditor Mandy Berg. “Melissa had come in and talked to us at the time. She just wanted to give an update on it.”

In other county business, the supervisors:

• approved the signing of an Auxiant security access form, relating to the county’s health insurance

• approved the ISAC Wellness Program agreement, which gives the county discounts on insurance premiums for the next year if it is participated in. Berg said this measure saves employees and the county money and has been participated in for the past several years.

• tabled the paying of a fee for a GIS file the City of Stuart was requesting pending further information be gathered. The option exists of waiving the $750 fee but more information was to be gathered before a decision is made.
