Greenfield council public hearings for parking, max levy rate

Max levy rate for FY 22 proposed to be 5.61%

GREENFIELD — The Greenfield City Council will hold two public hearings Feb. 1 at their regular city council meeting, the first regarding the max levy for the next fiscal year and the second regarding parking in town. The hearing dates were set at Tuesday night’s council meeting at City Hall.

The max levy is proposed to be at 5.16%, an increase of .3%.

Council members commented during Tuesday’s meeting that the levy increase is necessitated by the current financial position the city is in. A more in depth report on the proposed max levy rate will be printed in next week’s newspaper.

The second public hearing is for parking on SE 5th Street near Casey’s. The council previously discussed the matter and decided upon allowing parking for a 10-minute period of time on the east side of the street and no parking on the west side of the street. That is what will be decided upon with the public hearing/resolution process.

In other city business, the council:

• heard a report from Greenfield Chamber Main Street and Development Executive Director Stacie Hull regarding the latest activities, which include grants that are being applied for, the potential repurposing and renovation of the Carnegie Library building and the organization’s Virtual Annual Meeting, which is Monday at 11 a.m.

• approved a liquor license renewal for Fareway

• approved the appointment of Julie Derby to sit on the library board for a four-year term after Roleen Chiles’ resignation.
