Linda Iwen

Omaha, Neb.

Linda Iwen died on Dec 5, 2020, at the University of Nebraska Hospital at age 77. A longtime Omaha resident, she was born in Greenfield, Iowa to Donavan and Nora (Edwards) Weber on Dec. 30, 1942. She was baptized and confirmed at Greenfield’s Immanuel Lutheran Church. She attended Country School Grove Township #5 and is a graduate of Greenfield High School class of 1960. During her school days she was a participant in band, class plays and Y Teens. After high school she attended Northwest Missouri State, Maryville, Mo., and then graduated from Omaha University, Omaha, Neb. in 1964.

She married her husband Duane Iwen 58 years ago on August 4, 1962. They are the proud parents of Carrie Iwen (Jen), Lanessa (Todd) Lehr, and Bradley (Joey) Iwen. They are also the proud grandparents of Zach, Kaylee, Ellie, Dylan, and Carsten.

Her first teaching job was at Omaha’s Harrison School, which in later years was the school where the Iwen children attended. For most of her teaching years she was a kindergarten or first grade teacher at St. Paul Lutheran school, Omaha, where she taught 25 years.

She was a long-time member and active in many ways at Bethany Lutheran Church, active in PTA school groups and other community organizations, and a founding member of BART- Benson Area Refuges Task Force. She enjoyed frequent visits to Greenfield, and enjoyed special times with the Weber and Edwards cousins.

In addition to her children and grandchildren, Linda is survived by husband Duane, brother and sister-in-law Phil and Judy Weber, sister-in-law Joyce Smith, brother-in-law and sister-in-law John and Kay Iwen, Dave and Alma Iwen, Shirley and Wayne Piehl, nieces and nephews, and many other relatives, friends, and residents of the Immanuel Village Community.

A private family graveside service was held at Springwell Cemetery, Omaha. Rev. Mark Rosenau conducted the brief service, and friends sang two of Linda’s favorite songs, I Love to Tell the Story and Just A Closer Walk With Thee.

A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.
