Dayton Linn Simpson, 78, passed away Tuesday, Dec. 22, 2020, at Good Samaritan Center in Fontanelle.
Open visitation will be noon to 5 p.m. Monday, Dec. 28, 2020, at Steen Funeral Home in Greenfield.
Private funeral and Masonic services will be held at United Methodist Church in Greenfield with burial in Greenfield Cemetery. Pastor Melinda Stonebraker and the Greenfield Crusade Lodge No. 386 A.F. & A.M. will officiate the service.

Dayton Linn Simpson was born Aug. 3, 1942, in Des Moines, the son of Don L. and Mary Ellen (McCollum) Simpson.
Dayton graduated from Greenfield High School in 1960. He attended Creston Community College and received his Associates of Arts degree in 1962. He then attended the University of Iowa and graduated with a bachelor’s degree in 1965. He received his Masters of Science degree from the University of Wyoming in 1970.
Dayton was employed at the Adair County Memorial Hospital for many years and later in life was employed at Schaefer Systems in Adair.
Dayton was a member of Greenfield Crusade Lodge No. 386 for over 56 years.
Dayton loved trap and skeet shooting and science fiction. During retirement you could count on Dayton being at the Olive Branch for lunch on a regular basis and taking his walks around the square,visiting with whoever he ran in to.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Dayton had no immediate family surviving him.
