Six Panthers crack All-District 9 team, two on honorable mention

Panthers put six across first, second team; Baker and Travis named honorable mention

Six Creston/O-M Panthers cracked the all-District 9 football team Thursday night.

On the first team, Jackson Kinsella was selected as an at-large member of the offense. On defense, Derek Paup (lineman), Garon Wurster (linebacker) and Colby Burg (defensive back) were each selected.

Kinsella was an integral member of the offensive line, helping the panthers rush for 731 yards and pass for 1,021 yards. As a team the Panthers had 10 touchdowns scored on offense.

On defense, Paup posted 27 tackled and four sacks. He had 6 1/2 tackles for a loss to go with a fumble recovery.

Wurster led the team in tackles with 41 1/2. He had two tackles for a loss, and a fumble recovery.

Burg was a ball hawk in the backfield, leading Class 3A in interceptions partway through the season. With six INTs, he finished tied for second in the state in interceptions. He also had 23 tackles, 20 being solo.

On second team the Panthers had lineman Andy Weis and linebacker Briley Hayes as selections.

Weis had 22 1/2 tackles and eight solo stops. Two of his stops were sacks and 4 1/2 were tackles for a loss. Hayes’ season saw him tally 33 tackles and get 3 1/2 stops for a loss.

The Panthers had two honorable mentions in Brance Baker (offensive) and Conner Travis (defensive).

Missing time due to a shoulder injury, Baker still proved to be a big part of both sides of the ball after his return.

Offensively Baker trailed Burg for the lead in receptions and yards with 18 catches for 213 yards. He scored on two catches.

Defensively, he had two interceptions, including one pick-6.

Travis’ season ended with him tallying 25 1/2 tackles and 2 1/2 tackles for a loss. He also had an interception.
